The hopes of England ending a 55-year long wait to win a major trophy has ended in a yet another heartbreaking style as they lose 3-2 on penalties to Italy in the final of UEFA Euro 2020 in front of their fans at Wembley.
It was a good start into the match for England when defender Luke Shaw scored a fantastic goal only in two minutes into the game. And then, Leonard Bonucci gave a response in the second-half to level play for the Azzuries.
The match which ended in a dramatic shootout was the final of a monthlong tournament that has to be delayed for a year because of the pandemic that raised innumerable public health concerns throughout the world.
The penalty shootout was full of suspense as players brought on just to take penalties missed their chances while Italy's surest penalty taker could not convert his shot from the spot. An attempt that would have earn his country the victory even when England Bukayo Saka of Arsenal could not convert from the spot.
It was really an emotional day for the English fans as their hopes were dashed after a long wait to see, "football come back home."
