According to reports, Sunday Igboho and wife's trial began at around 6pm on Thursday, despite the fact that many of Igboho and Yoruba Nation activists have been in court since ealy hours of the morning.
It has been confirmed according to his lawyer that Igboho's wife had been released after finding no charges against her.
Recall, that Ropo, the wife of the Chief Sunday Adeyemo was arrested on the same day with her husband at a private airport in Cotonou, while the two were trying to reach Germany via Benin Republic.
Now, they have freed his wife, and they have returned her passport and other belongings they seized from her.
Igboho's lawyer confirmed only Nigerian and German passports were seized from the Yoruba self-determination activist.
Ibrahim David Salami, a lawyer for Chief Sunday Adeyemo, "Igboho" in Benin Republic, told journalists that the Benin government had not found Benenoise passport owned by Benin Republic with Ighoho, according to previous reports.
"They confiscated a Nigerian and German passports from Igboho, while they confiscated German passport from his wife", he said.
However, The benin Republic law enforcement officials who arrested Igboho says their operation to arrest Igboho is an order they have received from the Nigerian government.
Now, the Cotonou High Court is ordering that Igboho be returned to the police station where the crime is being investigated, until Monday when the trial will resume.
