NIGERIA REGIONS CAN MAKE A TRY TO HANG SEPARATELY.

By: Kunle Olajuyin

Many times, I try to get my minds off, thinking about current situations bedeviling our dear nation, #Nigeria. Worst still is that, I have never succeeded in this. My thoughts have intermittently make its direction towards her. Reasons may not be far fetched. I love my country and felt much concern for her woes. As much as I try to unravel the cause of this challenges, I am not so sure I can give an holistic opinion because I have never been part of the government at any level, at any given time.

Like many other well-meaning Nigerians, opinion that emanates from me will solely be based on information gotten from news outlets and historical events in public domain. The real players are the elected officials from Local Government Councilor to the President, and including selected political office holders. Those in the civil service also are key players, acting as  the brain, hand, leg, mouth and heart beat of the government in all situations, including embezzlement of public funds, to say the least.

From 1914, to 1960, to 1983, to 1985, to 1993, to 1999 and to 2021, one can easily conclude that Nigeria has been on a reverse gear. Instead of going forward with hope, the acclaimed Giant of Africa has been going backward in fear and division. We have several factors that differentiates us as a whole entity - The North wants to hold on to government rulership at all cost, The South East/South wants to control the oil sector and The South West has always been the economic nerve of the country with Lagos playing a major role. Every region has divergent opinion on every aspect of our day-to-day livelihood as a nation, and this fact as justified, that we have No unity in our diversity.

"Unity and faith; peace and progress", is our national motto. Unfortunately neither of these four words has ever had positive impact on Nigeria. Historically, it will be a total deceit to say we have ever had a time this country was held in Unity, not to talk of peace at a time like this, when our nation is in total chaos that has brought us to our kneels.

A Nation is defined as a large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory. I am still so confused, how our situation is outside the paradox of worldwide view of what a nation is supposed to be. We look fake in the face the world, based on uncommon descent, different historical background from region to region. We don't have a unified culture from North, West and to South. To even mention the aspect of language, this throws us off the track on what a nation is. In a simple term, were never a nation.

Nigeria could have been well managed if we have been coupled together with such #actofunion1707 that brought Scotland and England together. The case of Great Britain and Norther Ireland, forming the United Kingdom would have been solid copy for us, compared to what we have today. Forcing people of different decent, history, culture and language to form a nation, is one of the greatest act wickedness against humanity.

At the end of the day it's about how much we can bear, how much we can endure. Being together, we have been danger to one another; being apart, we extinguish ourselves. “We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everyhwere.” Men build too many walls and not enough bridges.”

And since we cannot hang together, why not let us try to hang separately.
