Dunamis Church protest: Punch, Roots TV reporters assaulted and detained by Police


The PUNCH reporter, Solomon Odeniyi and his counterpart with Roots TV, Busayo Tosin were assaulted and detained by armed policemen attached to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Sunday.

While narrating their unholy treatment, the reporters claimed they disposed of their mobile telephone and other belongings and thereafter detained at the River Park Police Station at about 8am.

According to the PUNCH, the reporters said, they went to Dunamis as a follow-up to what happened at the church last Sunday following a statement released by some groups to storm the church if the church members arrested for wearing, "#BuhariMustGo" T-shirts were not released. 

The policeman were led by one U. C. Ugochukwu admist heavy presence of security operatives comprising the DSS and Police officers at the church premises which was an indication that something was about to happen, he said. 

Odeniyi, who was grabbed by his belt was also said to be accused of being among the protesters after they were surrounded by a patrol van of seven policemen, damaging his ID Card in the process after it was forcefully taken from him. 

While one pointed his gun at him, another slapped him from behind. The reporters pleaded to be allowed to speak with their offices but their requests were turned down. Part of the items seized from them include: one camera, one power bank, three mobile phones, one tripod and one identity card. 

They were released at exactly 12:10pm after being detained unjustly for four hours. The release came after the church services at Dunamis had ended. Their phone numbers and addresses were taken and were seriously warned not to return to the church and that their unlawful detention must not be reported.
